"That door was LOCKED for a reason, you asshole." Despite the acid in his voice and the look on his face, the inclusion of the insult seemed to soften the objection; maybe it was the way Newt pronounced his As, the sound drawing his mouth into an almost smile. The word didn't carry any fondness, yet somehow, it did. "Let's talk about THAT."

"It was either that or waste a half day's energy porting into your room. I refuse to yell at you through a closed door."
Not that he really intends to yell, but the closed door would have certainly forced them both into raising their voices.
"Newton, I understand your concerns, as I rather share them myself. I do not intend to be careless, and nor have I quite made a decision, so I'd appreciate it if you could stop acting like I've abruptly signed my death warrant so we could discuss this further."

He sat up halfway, leaning on his elbows.
"You want to work on the nanite thing with the government. The government that we don't trust and that has been cagey and CLEARLY does not trust us. If you're going to go in there, you might as well supply us--the imPorts--with some information, because really, there's no point working for them if we don't gain a better overall understanding of these nanites--but to engage in that kind of information gathering could be perceived as SPYING on the US government or an act of treason, despite our lack of actual allegiance to them. And I suppose we could pull a Snowden and run to Russia for asylum, but I really don't want to hang out with them either."
Newt gestured to his bed, indicating Hermann should take a seat.
"So discuss."

He took a seat on the edge of the bed, hands folded over the grip of his cane.
"Yes, that would amount to spying. Justified of course, but they're not likely to see it that way. In any case, if this is done, I'd dare to say I'm one of the ideal candidates, as I have a vested interest in the integrity of the nanites, sufficient programming ability, and as you said, a biologist 'on-call' of sorts."
Not to mention his new background in biotech, and the degree of which they're actively mind-melding.
"Now, as far as precautions are concerned, I don't see any reason not to move forward with this if the government isn't nullifying abilities- something I could likely test without too much trouble before fully committing to the course of action. If they are however.. then perhaps the risk isn't worth it."
