"Newton, I-" Hermann sighed, forced to relinquish a few bags in order to properly close and lock the door. He tugged his parka off, shaking his head as he hung it up on their coat rack. "If I'd needed help, I would have asked for it."
Words that wouldn't have been true a year ago, but were now- at least as far as Newton was concerned.
Hermann snatched the remaining bags before Newton could double back for them, and hauled them up onto a counter in the kitchen with the rest. He rifled through them until he managed to unearth a brightly colored package of mice. As though summoned, Liebling appeared in the kitchen doorway.
"Yes, I didn't forget you, darling."
Hermann fussed with the packaging a moment, then wiggled a mouse free and tossed it over her head and into the living room. She disappeared in a flash of an orange tail. He smiled after her, then set the package on the countertop and turned back to Newton.
