driftsintobuffetline: (idk what to call this face)
Stay? Holy- Was he offering what Newt thought he was offering? This was almost as show-stopping as the offer to Drift, because, while it wasn't Newt's life being saved (it was Hermann's, in a way, or prolonged, hopefully, at the very least), Hermann was still offering to forfeit so much for something Newt sort of had always known he wanted, wasn't sure he had ever fully expressed, and wasn't sure he should want. But here they were. And, like the Drift, the offer felt like an I love you and a We're in this together and I need you in my life, too.

Newt pulled back, worrying his lower lip as he considered Hermann's face with his own wide-eyed, uncertain, shocked and pleased expression all at once.

"B-but what about the Breach, your work...uh, everything?!" There was less for Newt back home; the Kaiju were gone and the Breach was closed. But Hermann had wanted to go home, he still had work to do, had a purpose and a dedication to the cause, so Newt had long ago all but decided that was where he would go when the time came--if it ever was a choice. "Are you sure?" he asked, a hopeful smile pulling across his face. He repeated, just to be sure, a little louder, a little too excited, giddy at the prospect, "Are you sure? You would do that for me--for yourself--" The awkward, crooked grin grew, brows raised, and a blush drew over his cheeks as he gave a nervous laugh. "--for us?"
